Hayden by support worker Tegan
My son Hayden and I are both a client and a worker duo. I changed my sons workers over once I started working for Caring Lotus.
My son doesn't often come to the events as they fall on a weekend he is with his Dad. Hayden came to the Melbourne Show event, he enjoyed himself with patting the animals and he got along well with the participants and talked to one mainly about his interests and likes. Hayden needs a lot of encouragement to go out of his comfort zone and often sits and hides on his phone so it was a pleasure to watch as a parent, my son dropping his walls and engaging with others. We had our names subscribed by a business at the Melbourne show, it was done right in front of us. How cool!!
Josh by support worker Karim
Supporting my clients has been the biggest blessing in my life. It has given me a purpose that feeds my soul and makes me feel as though I am doing my part in this world one client at a time and it is the best thing I could of asked for.
Although challenging at times, the job is very fun and often does not feel like work. Sometimes I laugh to myself and think, I'm not sure who's having a better time, me or the client. Seeing my clients have a smile on their face whether it's after having a bad day and me cheering them up, or from them achieving their goals and having a better quality of life warms my heart and it's truly been a gift to experience. For example, getting to participate in personal training with Josh every Thursday has become a part of both of our routines which we enjoy and it motivates Josh to keep going and achieving his goals.
I believe that this job has done me more good than it has my clients purely from how rewarding it is. Its taught me resilience, strength and maturity. It's also allowed me to tap in to my caring nature and foster amazing relationships.
I now understand people with disability even better, and know how to become an advocate for them and give them a voice when they don't feel heard, or just need extra help in their everyday lives.
Andrea by support worker Bernie
Andrea is one of our clients who is bedridden, and like most of us she still takes pride in her appearance and she still likes to look glamorous.
Andrea wanted a new look and so with some thought and planning, my co-worker Annette and I devised a plan to be able to give Andrea a new look.
We cut and dyed her beautiful hair, we are proud to say she stayed completely dry beneath the wraps.
We loved being able to do that for such a lovely lady and we all had fun along the way.
Sonia by support worker Jo
Sonia is a busy mum and partner but loves to make Loombands in spare time. These are little creatures made out of elastic bands.
Sonia has been interested in Loombands since her teenage years and has decided to advertise them on social media in hope to make some sales.
Her creativity really shows through, I am so proud of her.

On a shift with Bill, he asked me to take him to the Williamstown beach so he could use his new video camera he bought from his local salvos. He wasn't sure how it worked but with patience he worked it out and was so thrilled with himself as was I.
Bill took a lovely video of us and the beautiful ducks. He sat on the chairs and just took in the beautiful water around us. He told me he could just sit there all day.

As a devoted Wife, Mum and Nanny, she is always up for adventures; singing lessons, hydrotherapy, indoor cricket, football, ten pin bowling or lunch dates.
Her can-do attitude is truly inspiring, and I look forward to our time together and watching her confidence grow.
